Claude Monet (1840-1926) was a French painter and one of the creators of Impressionism. His paint "Impression, Sunrise" gave its name to the term impressionism. Monet lived in a house in Givenrny from 1883 until his death. There he created his famous garden, with a pond with water lilies, a Japanese bridge, cherry trees, maples, Japanese apple trees, sycamores, chestnut trees and linden trees. As for the flowers, Monet wanted this informal garden to offer color in every season of the year. The thousands of flowers of hundreds of different species that sprung from the gardens of this house served as inspiration for several pictorial series. |
